Latest Pic of the NEW Stable

We began on my birthday with Bill and Alex helping me get up the three walls:

When Rich and Deb came over for Sheila's birthday after a week of rain, Rich helped out:

Neal volunteered to help on Halloween:

Progress was a little slower on All Hallows Day as Alex and Bill stopped over, but I took of the day after Election Day (in mourning) and finished the front half of the rafters. Of course, it rained every day in between:

But the weekend of the 5th and 6th of November promised to be a great one, weather-wise. Neal and Alex came over, while Bill coached his basketball team to a runner-up tournament finish:

The following weekend, Bill came over both SAT and SUN and we got the window framing and north side sheathing in place, cut the rafters and got as far as the first course of roof sheathing, but just on the north side:

After more rain on MON and TUES, I took WED as a Vacation Day and finished all the attic flooring and both the front and rear gable stud walls, even though everything was still wet:

After more rain on THUR night and all FRI, SAT was still wet and cold, but on SUN it warmed up to the low 40s. Bill came over in the afternoon and we got the north side roof sheathing finished. We quit to watch the last 50 laps of the Nextel NASCAR FORD 400 season finale, and had to quit for good when the sun went down and took the temperature with it. Hope to finish the rough construction over Thanksgiving holiday:

After more rain during the week and our first decent snowfall of an-inch-and-a-half, SAT warmed up to the 40s. It made for muddy ladders in the afternoon when Bill came over. We got the back gable overhang installed, and I finished the back sheathing. On SUN, Neal brought extra tyvek and hammer stapplers. We knocked out the front gable overhang and accomplished Neal's goal of tyveking the walls. I had to quit at dark and went in to find out the Packer's were getting their butts handed to them by the Eagles 35-3 at half, but at least WE made some progress:

After ANOTHER week of rain, mist and fog, SAT warmed up to the mid-30s. I cut the roof vent holes and installed the five vents to match the house. Since it doesn't look like the shingling is going to get done before Winter sets in and tomorrow is supposed to be extremely windy, Bill and I decided to seal off the roof and prevent any further soaking of the sheathing. But we only got it half done before the sun went down:

Since WEDs have been pretty decent days this Fall, I took another vacation day and Alex helped me finish putting Tyvek on the roof to seal it off. But the only word I can think of to describe this day is NASTY, because it was cold and extremely windy, and we had to fight the wind all the way, but we got 'r done:

It's now been two months since we started this project. With the steel service door installed, the special order vent louvres (which will become the swing open door to the attic) on order, and the front gable sheathing in place, there are now 10,000 staples holding this stable together!

Nothing happened in the last three months, except for the cold and wet winter. I decided that after I fell off the ladder the last time, I wasn't going to take a chance falling off the roof, and I had Danz Custom Homes do the roof and soffit, and they did a nice job on the shingle- and color-match to the house:

It's supposed to start warming up into the 40s next week, so pretty soon we can get started on finishing the stable!

Well, now we're waiting for the custom-color fiber-cement siding to arrive, and J&B finally started the siding 3 months after the initial contract was signed! At least they do nice work:

ENCLOSED in just one year, one week and one day!

Thanks to BILL(especially), ALEX, NEAL and RICH the new stable is slowly taking shape! Thanks to Mother Nature for the challenging weather conditions. And thanks to SHEILA to feed the horde, especially Alex, who's STILL a growing boy (man-child ). Too bad the permit(s) and initial inspection were way behind the agenda. I STARTED the permit process way back in September and didn't have it in my hands until November! AND, even now, I have to work out a Variance or something with the PSP Zoning Commission, AFTER they OK'ed my plan!
